This is a BIG Full Year 2027 calendar, a personal Time Map.
You can see the screenprinting process and more photos here.
We have been making these in our house for nearly two decades. This is the first time I’m making them for others so I’ll share how we use ours:
This illustration of days becomes a household diary, a way of understanding where we started and how far we’ve come.
We record all kinds of things on it - what we plan to happen, what actually did happen, favorite dinners that we made, funny quotes said along the way, birthdays, deaths, everything in between. The blank spaces can be as revealing as the crowded ones.
I love getting to live and interact with my husband’s particular script, my son’s marks, my daughter’s doodles. It starts out clean, but it’s meant to get dirty, to be filled with smudges and erasures and crossing-outs as a life is recorded on it.
Through the years, our Time Maps have been a remarkable organization tool for us but what I Iove about them is this:
Every day I see the entire year. I can see exactly where I start and, as I make my way through a year, precisely where I’ve been. I can see what popped up, unforeseen, and shifted my course. I can see clearly how I spend my time and who I spend it with, what I prioritize and what I cancel. My patterns emerge. I can see, right there on my wall, how all of those things add up to Right Here Right Now. In this way, it feels like a map to me - showing the route that I took. And looking back helps me look forward. Because memory is a form of navigation.
A Time Map is a crucial tool for navigating my life. We keep them - they have become our family treasures, a story of us.
Screenprinted on heavy 300gsm archival watercolor paper, 71” x 32” (180cm x 81cm)
The seasons are revealed by the color of the dates, shifting at each solstice and equinox.
These Time Maps are made by humans so they will have slight variations.
