leah lani griffin made a 15 movie about my husband, ian, called marvel. she documented ian's work at the time of marvel's birth. peek into his studio....

> > belle and sebastian <
hearing live music is pretty much my favorite thing to do. it beats tubing down the river and drinking beer on a patio at sunset. it trumps surfing, running in the rain, and eating half a pan of brownies with ice cream. hearing, seeing, feeling live music can make me cry and laugh and sing at the top of my lungs. it makes me dance. i love art that makes me dance.
and man, i love me some belle and sebastian. i've been smitten since i heard the first strains of the state i am in on tigermilk. i hadn't seen belle and sebastian in 11 years until last night at the moody theater and it just kinda felt like coming home. i'm still dancing this morning.
these are a few of my favorites that they played last night. turn it up, y'all...
> > dream cards <
my daughter has a box of dream cards that she keeps by her bed. at night she often chooses one, we read it, and she puts it under her pillow. lately she has been letting me have a dream card as well. sweet, yes, but since she often remembers the dream cards as i am walking out of her bedroom, i see it as a stalling technique. i grit my teeth and try to keep from rolling my eyes as i read our cards. their message is veiled by my desire to yell "it's 2 minutes past bedtime!", crumple up the cards, sprint out of her room, and slam the door. the other night, when it was ian's turn to put koruna to bed, he came down with a card she'd insisted was mine.
> > Mexico <
11 years ago i traveled through mexico for a month in a 1977 volkswagon bus with my best friends. we camped all the way to guatemala. we pitched our tents in the mountains, in the jungle, on the beach. we barely bathed at all. our bus broke down. we got robbed. it was the best trip i'd ever been on.
we gathered a few more folks and went again a few years later.
we went again a couple of years after that.
and then we had kids. much less mexico since then.
much less casual traveling in general. no lazy days, no sloooooow livin'. since koruna and marvel came into our lives, our travels have been shorter, more hectic, and therefore less desirable.
but we feel ready to change things up.
we've bought our tickets. we've found our casa. we've got koruna enrolled in a little escuela.
we're headed to Mexico for much of the fall.
and apparently we've been talking about it a lot because this happened out of the blue the other morning:
we'll see if we can wait until october.
