i was photographed the other day and my pic just showed up on this style blog. ooh la la! you can see i'm having to get my wear out of the red vintage dress since i'm about to pop out of it.....
oh, plastics.....
plastic is quite a material - so many forms, so many uses. though we try to keep plastics to a minimum in our home, i look around our house and see them all over. and after being especially careful about buying only BPA-free plastics when i DO buy plastics, i saw this on NPR a couple of weeks ago: http://www.npr.org/2011/03/02/134196209/study-most-plastics-leach-hormone-like-chemicals
i especially try to shy away from plastics where koruna's food and water is concerned, but as anyone with a small child knows, plastic-free options aren't exactly jumping off the shelves at many of the baby stores.
there are some good bamboo baby products out there. and you can get bottles from evenflow and bornfree and sippycups from kleen kanteen, but i assume the nipples are still just bpa-free plastic.
i did find this site that offers some alternatives: http://lifewithoutplastic.com/boutique/child-and-baby-products-c-65.html
before i rush out and buy the next thing they tell me is okay, i'll use the best of what we've got.
(note the plastic covered chair and plastic formica table. grrrr....but i love 'em.)
koruna moved straight from nursing to drinking from cups. that has come in handy because now, at one and a half years, we can trust her to use our juice glasses.
you can find the leather bib here
(note the plastic letters ALL AROUND IT - argh!)
plastics seem like they're here to stay. i'm so attached to some of the plastic things in my house that i wouldn't dream of letting them go. but from now on, i am going to be even more aware of every plastic purchase.
sun salutation
*happy solstice*
in my yoga class last night, i was reminded of the following poem, "the sun never says", by the sufi poet, hafiz:
Even after all this time
the sun never says to the earth, "You owe Me."
Look what happens with a love like that.
It lights the Whole Sky.
