juice
i'm officially in my 3rd trimester this week and am needing a lot of liquid on these hot summer days. i love to juice, but i do not love cleaning our ancient juicer and i do not love the deafening noise that it makes as it pumps out the delectable juice. neither does koruna. for those reasons, i've been juicing less these last few months, but i realized i've been missing it. we still have tons of swiss chard in the garden so i got out there and gathered some along with some basil. i added beets and beet greens, a pear, and enough ginger to almost hurt. it was muy bueno. runa liked it, too.
on the topic of juice, i've got to mention our favorite local juice joint, the daily juice. deLIcious stuff after a run at town lake or a dip in the springs. my favorites are the 'thai curious' and the 'cosmic trigger'.
still, ya just can't beat homegrown.
homegrown tomatoes
we harvested our first tomatoes of the season this week - one big one and lots of little cherry tomatoes. last year our tomatoes were ehhhhh, but this year they're scrumptious. koruna's a fan. she likes 'em straight from the vine - no masking their flavor with other ingredients.
while out in the garden this morning, i found myself meandering over by the compost. it's always so lush through no efforts of our own.
it's nice to be reminded that our "trash" can grow flowers.
