HUICHOL LOVE

Huichol Love : modern design meets traditional Huichol craft

hl-red I first encountered the Huichol people over a decade ago while traveling through Mexico. The Huichols are considered to be one of the last surviving pre-Columbian cultures in the world and, like many indigenous peoples around the globe that are facing modernity, their vibrant culture is in danger of vanishing.

I am honored to now be working with the Huichol people and The Huichol Center for Cultural Survival in the creation of a fine jewelry collection. Every piece of fair trade HUICHOL LOVE Jewelry is hand beaded by the Huichol people in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico and finished in my studios in Austin, TX and Sayulita, Mexico. A portion of the HUICHOL LOVE collection is available now online and at JM Drygoods in Austin, TX.

i love the huicholes.

i first encountered huichol culture 12 years ago in real de catorce - another of my favorite mexican towns. it was there that i learned that the huicholes existed, heard their story, dropped my jaw at their beauty. my huichol love has grown steadily since that trip.

the huichol presence in sayulita is one of the things i love about this town. i get to see the artisans daily.  i get to introduce my children to their beautiful work. and this week i get to start working with the huichol center for cultural survival.

their sacred lands are threatened. the huichol culture is endangered.

and my huichol love grows.
